Food & First

It'd been a while since I cooked anything. I'm basically addicted to peppers in general, so I decided to make some pan-seared black pepper sole fish, complete with bell peppers and green onion. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the actual finished product...haha oops. Next time, I promise!

I also made HK Coffee Milktea (Yinyeung). It's essentially 1/2 coffee, 1/2 milktea. I use Earl Grey + evaporated milk to make the milktea base, then add sugar and a morning coffee to taste. Recipe tutorial will be posted later.

Note to self and to my readers: do not touch your eye / eye-area after handing jalapenos or any other type of peppers.  Just don't.

Then last night, I was taken to Cowboys Dancehall for some two-step (first time country dancing). Got a crash course and had a great time, but this experience gave me two realizations: (1) I need to practice a bit at home / at the gym studio before next time (it's so difficult being a guy haha) and (2) I really need invest in a pair of boots. How do I have a Battle of Gonzales flag but not boots? Unacceptable.

Goal for next time:

Finally got a filter pitcher! Less bottled water for me. #captplanet

I'm so hot.

Haircut! I've been growing out my hair, but it'd been more than a month since my last proper haircut so yesterday felt great. My friend Danish suggested this place called Diesel that's about 7min from my apartment - Diesel is a barbershop that has retro arcade games on freeplay and your choice of water, soda or Alamo beer for the wait.  After a cut and shampoo, you also get a shoulder massage - not bad.  This was actually the first time I'd gone to a non-Asian salon/barbershop. Positive experience. Having your hair washed by someone else is so therapeutic - it's like your worries just melt away. Yesterday was good, but in my experience so far, Asian stylists give better scalp massages.

Basically, from ages 10-22 I'd been rockin' some variation of a short buzzcut, flattop or fade. Seven months ago, I made the decision to change things up and grow out my hair. I guess I'd been keeping it short because I have naturally wavy hair and the intermediate phase between short and sufficiently long looks terrible - I essentially have a natural perm and random Canadians thought that I might have been subtly Blasian, but I digress. One time, we were trying to figure out why I was always called the Triad boss / miscellaneous Asian gangster and of course, it came down to the hair. My friend Martin had this to say: "Your hair's too short to be a pacifist." Short hair like mine was usually found on military or gang members. If you go bald, then you've gone too far over the edge and you look harmless (think monk, grandpa, etc), unless you're Caucasian, in which case you might be terrifying (neoNazi skinheads, Britney Spears, etc).

According to a number of Rice alum, my new hair makes me look older / like a dad. I wasn't aware that I was a baby daddy, so keep a look out for a possible appearance on Maury soon.

Random: I found HK$2.10 in my backpack from this summer. Good times. My apartment's A/C decided to run low on Freon the one day this week that had a high in the mid80s. I was working from home and had all the blinds shut, all the lights off because it was hotter indoors than out. Heat + Money = Nostalgia.

Thoughts on what I should do with my hair going forward?

So fresh, so clean

noun:\ˈmi-sə-ˌlā-nē

1: a collection of writings on various subjects
2: a mixture of various things
Hey everyone!  I've entertained the idea of starting a blog for a while now, but it wasn't until most recently that someone actually pushed me over the edge towards making one.

I didn't know the amount of leg work involved in starting one of these things.  Brainstorming with 4 or 5 friends, it took me almost an entire night to get this thing named.  Finally, Googling synonyms for miscellany, I realized that all it needed was a [d].  Shakespeare says "brevity is the soul of wit," but in case you didn't pick up on it, my name is Andy and this is going to be my personal blog.  The focus will be my life, opinions and experiences; one thing is certainly true: life is miscellany.  We are made up of an assortment of molecules, cells, organs, organ systems and our personalities are derived from the mélange of moments & memories.
miscellan[d]y.

I'm an Asian. I'm an American. I'm a musician. I'm an engineer. I'm a foodie. I'm a gamer. I'm a dreamer. I'm trying to become a doctor.  And starting today, I'm a blogger.
